This session will include an overview of the law related to the new Bridge to Independence program, which was passed last year through LB 216 to provide voluntary serives and support to age 21 for young people aging out of foster care. Following an overview of the law and an update on implementation, the sessions will walk through the specific pieces connected to the courts from beginning to end, from informing potentially eligible youth about this program beginning at age 16, to the process of the voluntary agreement and the filing of the petition, to the court review process, and more. There will also be time for discussion of the implementation of this program in your local area and a discussion about what it means to be young adult-directed. Practical resources including sample legal documents and reference guides will be provided.
